Korea Lounge
Korea Lounge is an informal, salon-style gathering that brings together individuals interested in Korea’s economy, business, geopolitics, and society.
This cozy, low-stress event fosters idea-sharing, learning, and community building. Each meeting will have a theme, but there will be no formal presenters or presentations.
With 8 to 15 participants, everyone will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on the topic of the gathering.
The meetings will take place at a private lounge near the Friendship Heights metro station.
The first Korea Lounge is on September 23, between 7 and 9 PM.
There will be light snacks and soft drinks.
Only 8-15 spots are available. So register now.
The event is free.
Korea MFanel
High-profile forums about Korea often feature only men as panelists, earning the label of “manel” (male panel). In some cases, women are included for the sake of diversity, but typically in less prominent roles as moderators, discussants, or MCs.
At Korea MFanel (female + panel, also 파넬 \ pronounced panel), we aim to reverse this trend. We will feature only women as presenters, giving them a platform to showcase their research and ideas.
In an ideal world, a “fanel” would not be necessary. Both manels and fanels lack the richness of diverse ideas and perspectives. We only use the platform of Korea MFanel to highlight the current imbalance in the representation of women in Korean Studies and to spotlight the significant contributions women are making in the field.
